do you buy...

local?

since we've been married, the mr. and i have made a serious effort to support our local economy, whether this means eating at local restaurants, support local businesses {here in Charleston or SC businesses}, and especially buying local produce. there is something so rewarding about supporting the folks around you. you actually feel like you are contributing to society in a good way {even though consumerism often has a negative vibe}. one of my favorite places in our whole city is the vegetable bin. they sell locally grown produce as well as locally made good eats {pastries, crackers, etc}. the guys that work there are super friendly to boot, which makes me enjoy my shopping experience even more. but, the best part is, there prices are unbeatable!  on my last shopping trip i purchased:
2 red peppers, 1 green pepper, 1 large yellow onion, 1 bunch of asparagus, 4 large tomatoes, 1 bag of baby carrots, 1 large stalk of fresh celery, 2 zucchini, 2 summer squash, 4 large SC peaches all for $12.85 {did a little price comparison at harris teeter- this would have cost $29.75}. WOW!

so grab your veggie bags and seek out your local produce "bin" or farmers market so that you can save big and support something local! -j
